There are few lifestyles quite as unpredictable or as busy as an entrepreneur. Waking up at the crack of dawn, running around to meetings, and slaving away into the midnight hours is something that every entrepreneur is very familiar with. There is so much to do and never enough time to do it.
Because of this hectic schedule, it is very easy to neglect your health. Cooking comprehensive meals is just not at the top of your list of priorities. However, your body needs energy to keep up with your fast pace.
We have put together 5 tips on how to ensure healthy habits, without having to spend hours on it.
Drink enough water
Not cold drinks, not coffee, just pure, clean water. The health benefits of staying adequately hydrated is something that many people underestimate.
Experts recommend drinking 8 glasses of water per day, which translates to roughly 2 litres. Although this might sound impossible, it is really quite easy if you spread it throughout the day.
Have dedicated bottles for your car and for your desk. Drinking water while you are busy with a spreadsheet or in your car on the way to a meeting will already ensure that you have covered at least a big portion of your water intake.
Having a water cooler in your office will make it easy to refill with cold, fresh water.
Make sure to have a healthy breakfast
Easier said than done, we know. Full English breakfasts take a lot of time to prepare and to eat. Most quick breakfasts, like cereals and pastries are packed with processed sugar, so those aren’t good options either. What else is there, you might be asking.
We have some ideas for you:
Blueberry banana overnight oats. You can prepare this breakfast the night before and eat it on the go in the morning. Check out the recipe
Avocado toast with egg. Yes, it is as simple as it sounds and is a super healthy way to kick off your day. Smash avocado onto health bread, stick a fried egg on top, and you’re ready for the day.
Beet and spinach smoothie. Although this might sound like a strange combination, it is super tasty and only takes 5 minutes to prepare. Click here to check out the recipe
We know you’ve heard this a thousand times before, but that is only because it works. When you go to the grocery store, don’t wander around trying to remember what you need. This wastes time and you are more likely to make unhealthy choices.
Take 10 minutes to plan a list of meals for the week and create a shopping list based on that. Make sure to buy some staples like health bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, grains and nut butter. Make a bulk batch of rice, roasted vegetables and protein and freeze them in portions. On the day it will be as easy as adding a simple salad.
Keep some healthy snacks around
When you are running around between deadlines and meetings, you may be struck by a hunger attack. It is always tempting to grab a pie or some chips from the closest garage. Instead, make sure that you have healthy snacks close by, such as a fruit or some nuts. Carrot sticks with hummus makes a tasty and healthy snack.
Pick the healthy menu option
As a busy entrepreneur, meetings often take place at restaurants and coffee shops. Scan through the menu and choose something healthy. Burgers can be swapped for wraps, for example. Grilled is always healthier than fried. As a side, have salad or vegetables instead of chips and onion rings. Your body will thank you later.
Entrepreneurship is trying at best. Making sure that you stay healthy through the chaos is the kindest thing you can do for yourself. It will keep your mind sharp and give you the energy you need to attack your to do list head on.
